Setting the trend
The Arab Health show was abuzz with activity this year as exhibitors packed out
every available space in Dubai’s expansive exhibition centre and thousands of
visitors thronged the halls checking on medical devices and equipment – some of
which are setting the trend for healthcare in the future. Middle East Health was
there and reviews some of the key products and announcements.
Bionic technology has come along in leaps and bounds in the past five years. In
this issue we look at two developments – a highly sophisticated,
thought-controlled bionic arm being developed in the United
States; and the first commercially available bionic hand which has recently been
launched to market (See page 28).
On page 38 we publish a peer-reviewed clinical study on an ingenious new
drug-free analgesic method – ‘the two minute sciatic nerve press for pain
relief’.
In our focus on ultrasound we look at the latest offerings from Siemens, GE and
Philips. We also report on recent breakthrough research in which scientists are
studying the possibility of producing hi-resolution 3D holographic images.
During Arab Health we conducted several interviews with leading figures in the
industry, which will be published in forthcoming issues of Middle East Health.
In this issue we publish an exclusive interview with Dr James Thrall, one of the
world’s leading experts on radiology, about what the future holds in this field.
You will also find our regular healthcare and research news round-up and product
news.
