Berchtold’s Chromophare
LED surgical light receives
red dot award
Berchtold’s Chromophare LED
surgical light has received the
prestigious red dot design
award for product design for
2009. The award is reserved for
creative, innovative, highquality
products.
The Chromophare LED
surgical light has a flat
compact design which allows
for optimal configuration of
LEDs. This in turn provides
the surgeon with excellent
illumination of the entire
operating field. The closed
design with a smooth surface
ensures easy, hygienic
cleaning and reduces flow
turbulence.
The light uses the latest
generation high-performance LEDs which are combined in
such a way as to reduce colour
shadows and provide optimal
visibility of various types of
tissue. The cool infrared-free
light ensures comfortable
working conditions even
during long operations, making
rises in temperatures in the
vicinity of the surgeon’s head a
thing of the past.
An innovative sensor system
built into the handle of the light
allows the surgical staff to reposition
the lamp during operations
without inadvertently
altering the light field size. Via
the control panel on the lamp
and/or the wall control box, all
functions can also be controlled
intuitively and reliably.
The products submitted to the
red dot design award competition
are evaluated by an international
jury made up of renowned
design experts. They examine
and test products, assessing them
in terms of degree of innovation,
functionality, ergonomy, durability,
environmental friendliness
and user-friendliness.

Varian introduces digital imager
for interventional angiography
US-based Varian Medical Systems X-Ray Products, a world leader
in X-ray tubes and supplier of the premier PaxScan line of digital
x-ray image detectors for filmless x-rays, has introduced their first
digital imager specifically designed for interventional angiography
procedures.
“With speeds up to 30 frames per second, the PaxScan 3030+
allows the physician to monitor interventional procedures,
including the placement of catheters within blood vessels, in realtime,”
said Carl LaCasce, Vice President Imaging Products. “The
PaxScan 3030+ provides highly detailed images with excellent
contrast and spatial resolution, while delivering a low x-ray dose
to the patient.”
In addition to interventional angiography systems, the new PaxScan
3030+ multi-modality panel is designed for use in cardiovascular
imaging systems and surgical C-arms. The panel’s compatible interfaces
and software simplify integration into existing systems. It is
specially designed for equipment incorporating
three dimensional cone-beam
CT (CBCT) capabilities.
